I listen to a lot of audiobooks on my commute. And I was thinking that maybe I should do Bleak House or Hard Times by Dickens, this time of year and all.
I've driven to Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, and so on.
But Hard Times, I gave up after one disc. I gave Bleak House two discs because it's something like 48 discs long.
Tedious stuff. Maybe if I stuck with it for another disc, I'd be hooked. But screw it, I'm on to more or less pulp (which I guess Dickens was, too, when it comes right down to it), a mystery/procedural, Echo Park. Which starts slow for a modern crime story, but compared to Dickens, it borders on minimalism.
