This happened just a couple blocks from my work.
For a few months, at the end of my Nadler days, our offices were in this building. I remember it was a rickety old place, a movie theater that had been partitioned into restaurants and shops and the occasional office of a dying tabloid publisher.
It was nice, those few months, to be able to walk next door and grab one of 75th Street Brewery's fine beverages at the end of the day.
This fire was a bad deal all the way around. A bunch of firefighters got hurt, and all the businesses that were destroyed are the kind of small, entrepreneurial affairs that make Waldo such a cool neighborhood. Historic building, too.
