Eragon

Grandma Sharon treated for a movie today. We saw Eragon, which stars Sienna Guillory as Liv Tyler and John Malkovich as Ming the Merciless.

It's pretty heavily derivative of Lord of the Rings, with lots of stock fantasy characters and plot elements. The kiddos, no doubt, weren't jaded enough to notice such things, and it is technically well done and beautiful.

Mo didn't sit through the whole thing. It went about a half hour past her threshold for sitting there, waiting for the obvious climactic battle scene to unfold.

As far as the Sienna Guillory character, when I saw previews for this awhile back, I thought, 'Isn't Liv afraid of ending up typecast?' Turns out, it's not Liv. The two don't even look alike in a lot of respects, but the image the director was going for was so similar I think my brain must have seen the fair skin and bee-stung lips and filled in the gaps.

Or maybe everyone in Hollywood is looking more and more alike.
